SG Jordan Goodwin (St. Louis Eagles 17U)
It was a dominant night for Goodwin as he made his case for the top spot in the class of 2017 in the state. The 6’3” power guard showed off his complete game. He used his power to score on the interior through his man and get to the free throw line where he actually shot it better than normal at 8-11. When he is going downhill and attacking the hoop there isn’t a lot you can do to stop him. Hit a mid-range jumper. The area that really stood out was his passing. I have always been a fan of his distribution skills, but it was very clear how elite he is as a passer on Friday night. He made several incredible dishes with feel and touch in traffic. Mauled opponents on the boards as always. His never ending motor and energy translates over to everyone around him. The high major wing had 22 points.
SG Tim Finke (St. Louis Eagles 17U)
Finke was not 100% healthy, but the state’s top 2018 prospect more than held his own on Friday. At 6’6” the Champaign Central standout has great size for the position and has added some strength since we saw him even a few months ago during the high school season. He can shoot the ball from the perimeter off the catch from three with a clean stroke and elevation off the floor. Got out in transition where he converted several buckets. High level athlete that plays with a high IQ and is tough as nails. He had 17 points. High major prospect.
PG Nojel Eastern (Meanstreets 17U)
Eastern was outstanding leading his team to a win on Friday night against a talented CP3 squad. The 6’6” point guard handled the ball throughout the game making great decisions with the ball. Eastern passed it well throughout the game showing feel and touch on his dishes. Found his shooters and worked well in the pick and roll game. Pushed the pace in transition and made quality decisions. His athleticism showed great improvement as he is fully healthy now and used his explosion to get to the hoop where he made plays for himself and others. Did struggle a little converting around the hoop on some acrobatic attempts. Eastern got on the offensive glass for multiple tough boards that he turned into points. The 2017 point guard was a calming force and proved to be among the top prospects in his class.
PG Evan Gilyard (Meanstreets 17U)
Gilyard played well off Eastern in the backcourt. The 5’9” lead guard shot the ball well from the perimeter drilling a couple of pull up jumpers. Got in the lane with consistency throughout the game. Quick off the bounce with slick handles. Distributed the ball well. Should be on the mid-major plus radar.
SG Lucas Williamson (Meanstreets 17U)
Williamson only scored 6 points, but he impacted the game with his versatility. The smooth shooting guard did a nice job cleaning up on the defensive boards. Also had an offensive rebound put back. Effective mid-range jumper. Solid passer that can also defend. Low-major target.
C Wendell Carter (CP3 17U)
The 6’10” center from Georgia proved why he is a consensus top three player in the country. He was a monster scoring on the interior with his size, strength, and mobility. Carter had multiple dunks that he hammered home with authority. Dominated on the glass throughout the contest. Also got to the free throw line for 16 attempts. Carter had 20 points in the game. Future lottery pick.
PG Justin Roberts (Spiece Indy Heat 17U)
Big fan of this point guard from Indianapolis. Roberts has strength and knows how to play the game. True floor general that runs his troops. Has a feel for the game, pushes it in the open floor, and makes sound decisions with the rock. Effective pull up shooter from both mid-range and three. Should be under consideration at the high major level.
