Notes
Started last year as just a 16U team by former Boo Williams and Arkansas University stand out Stefan Welsh, BWSL We All We Got (WAWG) came onto the scene in a big way last season, playing up in a lot of tournaments and earning a reputation of a team with a lot of swagger that gets it done. The team returns much of it’s core with Cle’Von Greene, Kyle Foster and Chris Greene, but they also have added big time pieces in Darius Bell, Mike Barfield-Owens and James West. With another year of experience and some lethal offensive additions, WAWG should be a tough team to beat wherever they are.
Players to Watch:
- Cle’Von Greene: A bouncy two way wing, Greene has potential to the ceiling. A lock down on-ball defender, Greene can guard players that are bigger than him, but can also take away the opposing team’s best perimeter threat. He rebounds well for his size, can play on and off the ball and is an efficient three-level scorer.
- Darius Bell: Talk about potential, Bell is as talented as any big man in the state, he just has to get stronger and a little tougher in the post. But as for the next level, Bell should translate with his ability to take bigger players away from the basket and work off the bounce. At 6’8″ he’s a rebounding presence in the paint, and he’s also a versatile scorer on the perimeter that makes him a walking mismatch.
- Mike Barfield-Owens: A “do it all” type of forward, Barfield-Owens was one of the most productive players in the Hampton Roads area this high school season at Princess Anne, despite playing out of position at the five. He’s an athletic wing that averaged a double-double and is a walking mismatch. Expect to see him showcase his ability to play on the wing this summer.
- Kyle Foster: Foster blew up last year with WAWG, becoming the first player in the program to earn a scholarship offer (Howard). The 6’4″ wing continued his stellar play through the high school season, as he was one of the most deadly and efficient shooters in the Hampton Roads area. He’s an underrated athlete, but his biggest asset is his ability to open driving lanes and stretch the defense with his deep range.
- James West IV: Another efficient and deadly shooter, West will add another dimension to this WAWG team with his ability to both facilitate and score it from the lead guard position. He has great feel and his ability to score it at all three levels is underrated. He’ll be one to keep an eye on for recruitment purposes moving forward.
