D’Aaron Owens to Lincoln Land
The most underrated prospect in the class of 2016 across Illinois has come off the board on Sunday night as Centralia point guard D’Aaron Owens made his commitment to Lincoln Land. He told PrepHoopsIllinois why they were his choice.
“I feel like I fit in well with their style of play. Me being a point guard I’m surrounded by great shooters which gives me an opportunity to be the playmaking point guard I am. They’ve been patient with me throughout this whole process and that proves their loyalty! Ready for this next chapter with a great program.”
His relationship with his future coaching staff played a huge role in the ultimate decision.
“When Coach Kramer came to multiple games I felt a sense of how much they wanted me at the program. Once I took a visit Coach Jones set the tone of how Lincoln Land will build me as a player. That’s how this relationship started and looking forward for it to grow in the future.”
He is the definition of a floor general on the court. Owens knows the offense inside and out as he has been the man at the point for four seasons. He has a tremendous feel for the position along with knowing when and how to make the correct play. The high IQ point guard gets in the lane consistently with his quickness off the dribble and has the vision to find shooters, cutters, and his big men inside. His speed in the open floor also creates opportunities for himself and others. Owens hits acrobatic shots in the lane and isn’t afraid to mix it up inside despite his size. Defensively he is a pest at the point of attack with active hands causing turnovers and havoc.
Owens is the #42 overall prospect in the senior class and #12 point guard. He played with the Southwest Jets on the travel team circuit. Don’t be surprised when you look up in two years and this kid is being coveted by D1 programs after two years at Lincoln Land.
