We finished the final day and here are the guys that we thought stood out on Sunday.
Looking Outside Of Indianapolis For 2018 Talent
We spent the day trying to get a better grasp of the class of 2018, spreading out of our area and getting a couple names from both the North and the South. From the North, Brecar Clark caught our eye. A 6’2 shooting guard with tons of potential. He’s running with Club 1 Lockdown Elite and he was solid in the few times we saw him this weekend. Strong court presence who play with a little recklessness but capable of filling it up.
From the Southern part of the state, I liked Glen Rouch from Kell Hoops 2018. A 6’4 wing with a fairly aggressive mindset and enough handles to create off the bounce. Could still grow a bit but likely going to be a three-man but a plenty capable scorer that could be difficult to defend. Shot the ball well from the field and had 15 points in the final game I saw hitting a trio of threes. Will be a guy I try and get a second look at here in the next few weeks.
Indiana Elite Green 2017 Playing At A High Level
They ended up losing in the Semifinal game of the 17U Gold Bracket but that might only be a pause on the special summer this group could have in the next few months. If you look at the roster, you won’t see a ton of name value but there are most definitely guys to watch. Last week we talked about Maurice Knight. This week it is Conner Rotterman and Matt Godfrey. The backcourt mates had outstanding weekends and in the loss to Northwest Ohio Basketball Club, Godfrey put on a show as he knocked down 6 three pointers on his way to a team-high 18 points. He’s been a fairly streaky shooter to this point but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Rotterman was also great this weekend. He averaged 22 points per game over four games and had a high of 37 points on Saturday in a pool play game. For Hamilton Southeastern, he’s not going to be a guy that goes out and leads the team in points, it isn’t the way that team is structured, but he’s shown the ability to be a scorer. A lot of it comes on ball screens and in transition but his jump shot has come along as well.
