-Most Valuable Player-
Drew Hatch 6’3 2016 Mesa – Hatch had a tremendous tournament. He shot the ball extremely well from the field, made plays for teammates when his team’s back was to the wall, defended on and off the ball, and was always poised when the pressure was at his highest. Most importantly, he led his team to a Division-I state championship!
-All-Tournament Team-
Alex Barcello 6’2 2017 Corona del Sol – Barcello was the key for the Aztecs in their two state tournament games. In the quarterfinals, Alex was keyed on but still put up 29 points. Unfortunately, without his co-star Saben Lee Corona fell at the state tournament for the first time in four years.
Chris Bowling 6’7 2016 Gilbert – Bowling had an outstanding state tournament. After a clean win over Dobson he scored 26 points to put away a tough Mountain View group in overtime of the quarterfinals. He was big in the semi’s against Sunnyslope, especially in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers fell by 3.
Dane Maggi 6’3″ 2016 Sunnyslope – Maggi was great, especially in the championship game. The senior guard completely dominated the first half giving the Vikings the early lead. He hit some big shots late before falling to the Jackrabbits.
Chris Orozco 6’5 2018 Sunnyslope – Orozco had a very strong playoff performance. He was big in the championship with his effort in the glass but was probably most important in the Vikings’ quarterfinal game against Corona del Sol when he scored 17 points and pulled down 7 rebounds en route to helping knock off the returning state champs.
