Many of these prospects now have a year of varsity high school basketball experience under their belts even if it was in a limited role. We have seen quite a few talented prospects, but no elite superstars nationally to this point. Some of the better prospects we have been impressed with include Kahlil Whitney (Solario), Perry Cowan (DePaul Prep), Chris Payton (Bloomington), Dashon Enoch (Oak Park River Forest), Kejuan Clements (Simeon), Davarion Jacobs (Uplift), EJ Liddell (Belleville West), and Taeyon Neal (Providence St. Mel). Each have shown glimpses of being quality college prospects early in their careers. One that will cause quite a bit of buzz is Francis Chibuike-Okoro (Normal West). The forward moved into central Illinois in the middle of the year and has not played high school basketball in the state yet, but from what we have heard he has 5-star talent.
This spring and summer will be when players in this class really make a name for themselves going head to head with each other along with some of the premier talent from across the Midwest each weekend. New names will certainly emerge! Last year this time no one knew who Drew Peterson from Libertyville was. Now he is one of the best 2018 prospects in Illinois. It can happen just like that! Who will be those players this year? This is one of my favorite parts of the evaluation process when a young player goes from completely unknown to potential college prospect right in front of your eyes.
This class has not been ranked yet as in our opinion it is not fair to rank a group before even playing a full year of high school ball. We will have a watch list for the class of 2019 after the spring and an initial ranking following the July live period. Time to make your name!
