“Aquinas offered a week ago,” said Adams to PrepHoops.com Thursday night.
A member of NAIA-Division II, Aquinas is all-in on Adams.
“They will pretty much offer as much as they can to get me down there,” said Adams. “I am their guy.”
Adams is considering the offer, but is still seeing what else is out there. He has not narrowed his options to a ‘top schools’ list or eliminated offers just yet.
“I am open to everyone,” said Adams. “I have dream schools like big D1 schools like that.”
In addition to Aquinas, Adams has visited a number of local colleges too.
“I took an unofficial visit with Davenport and Aquinas and Adrian, as well,” said Adams.
[Adrian] is “like in the middle of their conference,” shared Adams. “I think they are third in their conference. I am only really hearing from those and Aquinas is talking almost every other day.”
The Aquinas Push
Spearheading the Aquinas recruitment is Coach Dave Hammer. A graduate of Central Michigan University, Coach Hammer is the only Aquinas College coach ever to take his team to a national tournament four times. Like Adams he is testing his connections throughout the state in search of 2016 team.
“And then two guys, one of them is good friends with one of our (high school) coaches,” said Adams.
This week Adams’ AAU-teammate Ben Lubitz discussed his recruitment too.
Lubitz is also fighting to extend his senior season. Both players are uncommitted for college, despite harboring a couple of strong options. Grand Valley State is aware of each talent.
“Grand Valley has been talking a little bit,” said Adams. “They wanted me to come down to a workout on April 10th, but I will be out of town. It was mostly small talk. It was more serious during the playoffs.
Grand Valley State University is just “twenty to thirty minutes” from Adams.
“They have been to quite a few games,” said Adams. He doesn’t get nervous during evaluations any more. “I just am used to it now, especially playing with the (Michigan) Mustangs.”
By July, Adams will turn 18 years old. He might run in April with the Mustangs as an unsigned senior.
“I might play AAU down in Dallas with Mustangs just to keep my options open.”
His predominate goal is to expand the recruitment to involve more suitors. Michigan colleges have not heard the last of Malek Adams.
