Continue ReadingCarbondale 2018 combo guard Darius Beane is one of the more intriguing prospects in the class. The 6’3” guard has a long and rangy frame with good athleticism. He is starting to get stronger in his legs and his athleticism continues to improve because of it. Beane is playing more on the ball this year where he shows off his vision as a distributor. He makes crisp passes to shooters and slashers. Beane handles the ball well with slick combination moves and a lethal crossover where he can leave his opponent in the dust. Likes to use jab fake to set up moves and create space. Perimeter jump shot has made strides and is a major weapon. When he gets in a rhythm and steps into his shot confidently the young guard is a plus three point threat. Balanced, gets elevation, and has good mechanics at the top of the release. Isn’t afraid to stick his nose in and hit the glass. Beane has the potential to be one of the best prospects in his class. With continued consistency on a game to game basis he should get there.
Beane talked about how he feels he played as a sophomore.
“I think I played pretty well. I think I averaged around 11 or 12 points. I am just looking to win.”
What are some of the areas he feels his game has grown?
“Getting better with my jump shot. Getting more lift with my jump shot instead of just a set shot. Ball handling and trying to get stronger.”
As we mentioned he is playing more at the point guard spot this year with the graduation of last year’s two lead guards.
“It has gone well. Having the ball in my hands has helped get me ready for the next level.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“Recently I have got letters from Florida State, Michigan, Oregon, Illinois, and St. Louis.”
Right now he is focusing on school and will start taking visits in summer.
