Cota led the Rattlers to their first playoff appearance since 2004, their first under head coach Michael O’Guinn. The Rattlers this season made a move to D3 in the state of Arizona, compared to the Division 1 level they have been playing at for over 10 years. Cota knew going into the season that this was a year to make a deep playoff run & that is what they did.
Cota the 6’3 guard was very much the leader for the Rattlers. Since his freshman year he saw the floor at key moments for the Rattlers. He spent the past 3 years getting battle tested for a year like this. This past high school season the years of hard work showed. He was a scoring machine for NCHS & won MVP of the Horizon Holiday Invite despite losing in the semi-finals. Cota put on a show against Horizon & Scottsdale Christian. All season long Cota was scoring & dominating the D3 level. He led his Rattlers to a section championship & defeated the highly touted Moon Valley squad.
In the postseason the Rattlers were able to get two big wins, and ultimately lost to Snowflake but the season was a historical one for the school. As Cota and his senior classmates graduate they have established a strong winning culture within the program as North Canyon moves up to 5A (Division 2) next year.
Cota spent the past 4 years playing with the Arizona Rebels organization & training with Coach O’Guinn. Look for him to continue to workout and develop as he chooses his next location. Cota has been hearing from junior colleges such as Arizona Western & Phoenix College. Cota would be a tremendous junior college prospect. He needs to add some weight & strength but his ability to score the ball is among the state’s best.
