PG D’Aaron Owens (Centralia – 2016)
It wasn’t the most dominant game from the unsigned point guard, but he got the job done at the end of the day. Owens passed the ball well including several skip passes to shooters for threes. Got in the lane and dished in the drive and kick game. Scoring wise he had a strong drive off a pick and roll where he beat his man to the hoop for an and-1. Also had a sweet runner in the lane which has become his go too scoring move. Was solid defensively putting pressure on Carbondale’s guards. He had 6 points and 4 assists. Should be looked at by D2 programs as well as being a priority at the D3/NAIA level. Owens will also consider JUCO’s.
SG Tyriq Billberry (Centralia – 2016)
Billberry does what he usually does. The 6’2” thick bodied guard is an adequate catch and shoot guy from three and powers through his man with crafty drives. Not the greatest athlete he has a knack for getting in the paint. Solid rebounder. D3/NAIA prospect. Finished with 12 points.
PG Lundyn Waithe (Centralia – 2016)
Waithe sometimes flies under the radar, but he is always solid. Did it again in the regional final. Passes the ball well making quality decisions with the rock and finds the extra pass for a better shot. He did an outstanding job defending on the perimeter against sophomore standout Darius Beane. Waithe had 5 points. Small college prospect.
SG Dawson Berry (Centralia – 2017
Berry was the best player on the floor Friday. The 6’3” junior mixed up his scoring with a three off the catch, offensive rebound put back on his own missed free throw, high/low finish, and a pair of strong drives off the bounce. He has a good build and better athleticism than given credit. The tough wing had 13 points. D3/NAIA prospect in the class of 2017.
SF Kani Acree (Carbondale – 2018)
Acree played on the interior the majority of the first half for Carbondale. He missed several shots where he tried to go through his man and finish with his right hand. Acree can play in the post as a mismatch, but he was going up against a physical defensive minded post of similar size for Centralia and struggled. He got hot in the second half when playing on the perimeter. Acree drilled a corner three, finished a curl with a bank shot in the lane, and had a sweet slash off the bounce. He scored 10 points in the loss. Potential D1 prospect.
SG Darius Beane (Carbondale – 2018)
It wasn’t Beane’s night. The talented sophomore has a long and rangy frame with a projectable body. He struggled scoring early despite being aggressive. That was a good step in his game though to see him more assertive and looking for his shot. His jump shot wasn’t falling however and had several fouls called on drives to the hoop. He had three fouls in the first half. In the second half he displayed an explosive first step on a couple drives, but didn’t convert them at the rim. Beane eventually fouled out with 4 points. Still remains a potential D1 prospect.
