Class C Player of the Year: Kolby Friday
Elizabeth wing Kolby Friday was an LHSAA All-State Academic performer who happened to be the best performer in Class C this season. He led Elizabeth to yet another Top 28 before falling short in the semifinals.
The 6’4 Friday is as versatile as most in the state with the ability to score both inside and out while making those around him better. With his academic’s, he’ll have the opportunity to play at the next level as a walk-on if he so chooses. He showed off his athleticism at times throughout the season and ended up averaging 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists en route to what is sure to be first team All-State honors on the court as well.
Having big games was the norm for Friday who put up 31 points in a playoff game before reaching the Top 28 and hit big shots in that Top 28 game despite the loss. Whether it was free throws down the stretch or a big bucket in the run of play, Friday could always be counted on for Elizabeth whose 26-5 record helped them to the number 1 seed in Class C this season.
In the recruiting report we did with him over the summer he mentioned being coachable, keeping a level head, and his leadership skills as things that will impress college coaches and they undoubtedly have. He told us one goal on the season was to, “give my all from the first practice until the last second of my last game,” and we certainly accomplished that goal.
His 4.0 GPA and 27 on the ACT when we last discussed it coupled with his on the court abilities were enough to impress coaches at LSUA, Louisiana College, McNeese, Northwestern State, Mobile, and ETBU. Regardless of where he ends up, Friday is surely to bring the right attitude to the program.
