Andrew Ekmark 6’0 2016 Phoenix Country Day – Ekmark has been the top player in Division-IV basketball all season long. The 6’0 senior plays the game with great poise and led his team all the way to the title game before falling to a more balanced Yuma team. Andrew averaged 24 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals while posting a near 2:1 assist/turnover ratio. He also had games of 40 and 49 points late in the season. He did more for his team than any other player in his division.
-First Team-
Art Bojorquez 6’0 2016 Buckeye Union – The Hawks were ranked among the top five teams all season in large part to the play of their senior leader Art Bojorquez. The 6’0” guard averaged 20 points per game and was huge for his group. Unfortunately, they fell by 1 to American Leadership in the quarterfinals.
Daniel Callendar 6’5 2017 Yuma Catholic – Callendar had a heckuva junior season for the state champion Shamrocks. Though he did not lead the team in scoring he was just as important as any player on the team. Posting a modest 11 points per game, the 6’5” forward was huge on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds per game. Where he was most effective, however, was in the paint on the defensive end altering and blocking shots. He averaged better than 4 blocks per game on the season.
Donnovan Hanna 6’6 2017 American Leadership – Hanna had a tremendous season, helping the Patriots reach the semifinals before falling to Phoenix Country Day. Averaging 16 points and 13 rebounds, Donnovan posted a double-double in 24 of American Leadership’s 33 contests.
Julian Jones 6’3 2016 Yuma Catholic – Jones was the undoubted leader for the state champion Shamrocks. The 6’3” senior guard was a playmaker as he averaged 14 points and 4 assists with a 2:1 assist/turnover ratio. He shot it well from the perimeter knocking more than 70 threes on the season. He also rebounded and defended, averaging 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
