Greenfield-Central comes in as the best of the bunch in terms of toughest 2A Regionals. A lot of that is due to the fact that Cloverdale and Broad Ripple have been sneaky good this year. Cloverdale is the 40th best team in the class but has a tougher schedule than most and has allowed them to get to this point where they can win games over tougher teams. Then, when you look at the top three Broad Ripple is even more surprising as they are 7th best team in 2A this year. They have some big wins including one already over Howe. Both Howe and Northeastern are Top 5 teams in the class. That kid of depth up top is hard to beat.
Lapel is an obvious pick as one of the toughest 2A Regionals. They have some star power at the top with Oak Hill and Lapel, the two best teams left in 2A this season. They wouldn’t matchup until the second round but that would be a heck of a game. You also have Covington that has finally gotten over the hump and made it to Regionals and Eastern, a team who has had a very good, under-the-radar season.
Paoli isn’t a surprise here as they have all four teams in the 11-25 range of the 2A Sagarin ratings. That is a very balanced group with Providence leading the way. They are a team that has plenty of experience in the postseason and can make some noise but first have to get past a very talented South Spencer team. Linton-Stockton sits on the opposite side and has a ton of experience as well. They had to beat South Knox this past week in 5 overtimes just to get to this point.
North Judson may be the fourth out of four but they are far from a slouch. Marquette Catholic has a solid team and a coach who knows how to get things down in March. Hammond Noll was able to upset Bowman Academy and make their way into this round. This Regional is a little lopsided towards the first game but should still provide to evenly matched first round games on Saturday morning.
