In the 2019 class, power forwards are fairly deep right now and centers are about on par with most years. With that said, there is more legit size than you normally see this early on. With John–Michael Mulloy leading the way, you have three guys over 6’8 and a couple other names not on this list that could jump on with a few more looks.
Carmel’s John–Michael Mulloy did something this year that nobody really has to this point, find playing time for Carmel as a freshman on Varsity. That just doesn’t happen so that can kind of tell you how much talent this kid has already. He’s tall, long and agile and isn’t shy about trying to make plays. Probably stretches out to end up as a tall stretch-four at some point but makes the biggest impact now as a low post threat. Following him up is Logan Carter, who missed the early part of the year with an injury. He’s a big boy who moves really well for his size. Decent touch around the rim. He’s really similar to Zionsville’s Hogan Orbaugh. Logan is a bit more aggressive right now which gives him the early nod.
Tri-West’s Ryan Wiggins has the look of a younger Wyatt Hughes from Maconaquah. Big, strong frame that doesn’t look like he can make plays outside of the paint but shoots it really well from behind the arc. If Ryan can keep his body lean, he’s got a chance to move up the rankings. Lucas Doyle of Center Grove is so light on his feet that he makes plays desptie his size. He’s a football guy as well and found himself as a tight end for Center Grove this season.
The class is light so far but usually we only end up with 10 or so that fall into this category by the time they are seniors. Overall, not a bad crop of talent that is sure to grow over the next few years. With that said, here is the 2019 Center Rankings.
