Now that the regular season is over, only the playoffs remain and any loss sends you home. There are favorites in each class and we’ll get to those throughout the week before the playoffs begin.
- Riverside and Country Day tied for district and decided to not play the game as it wouldn’t change anything heading into the playoffs. That wasn’t the case for most around the state.
- Northside and St. Thomas More played Friday Night (look for scouting reports on Monday) and the win for STM meant a rematch Saturday in which STM won as well. Devante Benjamin (6’2 G, STM, 2016) can up big in both wins.
- Wossman and Carroll had to play Saturday for district as well. Wossman came away with the win and that will certainly boost their seeding in the playoffs. Rapides got the big win over Many to claim that District title.
- Dunham had to win at Christian Life on Friday night to force a playoff on Saturday vs Episcopal. They won that rematch behind 18 points from freshman guard Jordan Wright. Episcopal was led by Kevin Tripeaux (6’4 G/F, 2017) who had 19 points.
- Class of 2018 continues to shine in the state. Javonte Smart went fro 27 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals Friday Night to clinch district while Devion Dunbar (6’2 G, Sicily Island) continues to shine since returning to state this year. He’ll likely lead the state in scoring.
- Pontchartrain Christian Athletics is 26-5 on the season and preparing for the homeschool nationals that start March 7th. They are led by two seniors, Matt Thomas (6’0 PG, LSUA commit) and Christian Comenge (6’2 G) who is a knock down shooter.
- Tioga fell to Peabody Saturday in both team’s last game before playoffs. Cross town rivalry is always a good game. Peabody was led by 20 each from Cedric Russel (6’2 G, 2017, LSU) and JaCoby Ross (6’0 G, 2016).
- Belle Chasse got a win over Pearl River and that’ll do it for them. Junior shooting guard Zach Thompson led them with 19 points.
