Before the game tipped off there was buzz as Saban Lee for Corona Del Sol was not playing due to the flu. His teammate Alex Barcello was playing a little under the weather so this made for interesting pregame banter. To start, Sunnyslope led at the end of the first quarter 14-10. The game was back & forth in the first half, giving Sunnyslope a small two point advantage at half time 22-20. For “Slope” senior Dane Maggi was leading them the whole way and was playing tough like a senior who didn’t want to end his high school basketball career. The presence of Saban Lee or lack their of was clearly seen. Sunnyslope lead Corona 39-32 to start the 4th quarter. During the 4th quarter Barcello tried to do all he could along with Tyrell Henderson but Dane Maggi & Chris Orozco decided it was time to dethrone the dynasty of Corona Del Sol leading to a 61-53 Sunnyslope upset over Corona Del Sol. Sunnyslope will advance to the final four.
Sunnyslope
Dane Maggi 6’4 Guard 2016- Maggi was tough as nails all night long for the Vikings. His toughness was easily seen by finishing with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists & 1 block. He was much needed all year long and especially this postseason for the Vikings of Sunnyslope. Maggi will look to be a nice junior college prospect or D2/NAIA.
Chris Orozco 6’5 Forward 2018- The young Orozco was a beast on the floor for the Vikings. He finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assists & was quite the presence all night. He doesn’t play like a underclassmen he held his own in the big time postseason lights. Look for Orozco to continue to develop as a 4-year prospect over these next couple years.
Corona Del Sol
Tyrell Henderson 6’3 Guard 2016- The Portland State commit Henderson did all he could in place of Saban Lee, Henderson is a talented guard who went 7-17 from the field, finished with 18 points, an animal on the glass with 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block & 3 steals. Best of luck to Mr.Henderson as he heads to PSU where he will play for Tyler Geving & his Portland State program.
Alex Barcello 6’2 Guard 2017- Barcello also did all he could for the Aztecs. He was playing a little under the weather going 10-29 from the field, scoring 29 points, grabbed 5 boards, 3 assists & 2 steals. Barcello will be back better than ever next season and look to push Corona back to another state title. This is a crucial summer for Barcello, he is a division 1 prospect who will continue to grow & develop. Arizona is lucky to have a talent like Barcello.
