The Panthers took charge in the second half and rolled to a 75-67 victory over St. Joe in the MIAA A Conference title game at UMBC’s RAC Arena on Sunday night. Kurk Lee, Jr. led the way with 29 points while Daquan Bracey added 23, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Lee and Bracey helped carry St. Frances in a game that was tied at 32 at the break. Both proved to be too much for the Gaels to stop on this night. The Sun said the Panthers improved to 29-8 and won the school’s first conference title, and that these school also could see each other again in the Baltimore Catholic tournament, which starts at the end of next week.
St. Frances took charge late in the first half and into the second. According to The Sun, the Panthers ended the first half with seven straight points to tie the game at 32. Then, they pushed the lead up to 53-39 in the third quarter but St. Joe couldn’t do anything about it.
Both teams won on the road during their two regular-season meetings but after the Gaels got off to a good start, St. Frances simply had too much for them. The Sun had St. Frances ranked No. 6 while Mount St. Joseph was at No. 1.
The loss left Mount St. Joseph with a 27-4 record at this point — with two of those losses to the Panthers.
