Scottsdale Christian is led by a duo of top 2019 prospects as well as some strong senior leadership. The game came out to a fast start with SCA coming out with an early lead, Estrella seemed panicked at first and rushed their first handful of possessions but once Estrella got in rhythm they kept the Eagles on their toes doing a good job of not letting SCA go on a big run. Going into the second half it was a tight battle, the first half was filled with lots of fouls and the second half the game was played loose. Estrella behind the Greabel brothers did a good job fighting but at the end of the day Reed Myers, Ethan Spry & Sam Ortega were too much for Estrella to handle, and Coach Fredericks won his 6th state championship with a 40-35 win.
Scottsdale Christian
Ethan Spry 6’6 Forward 2019- Spry finished with 8 points in the title game, grabbed a handful of rebounds and his size & length were crucial in having many matchup problems for Estrella. Spry is a rising 2019 prospect.
Reed Myers 6’0 Guard 2019- Myers finished with only 6 points, he didn’t have the same energy he had in the final four and all season long but regardless, Myers was needed all game long to handle the basketball for the Eagles. He made some big time basketball players for his teammates to clinch a state title. Myers was cool & composed and hit some big time free throws toward the end of the big game. Reed continue to gets better & better and will continue to become a 4 level prospect at the collegiate level.
Sam Ortega 6’3 Guard 2016- Sam was instrumental in the win finishing with 10 points. He was able to score from all over the floor and was a great senior leader for the Eagles. What a great way for him to go out as a state champ. Ortega is a junior college prospect with his length & ability to shoot the basketball.
Estrella Foothills
Rex Greabel 6’7 Forward 2016- The senior finished with 12 points and led Estrella all season long. He did all he could for Estrella and was tough all season long until the final buzzer of his high school career. Greabel is able to play inside & out and showed SCA why he is one of the better players in D3. Greabel is a junior college prospect but he is also an excellent student and would be able to qualify at a D3 or D2/NAIA program. His size & utility makes him an intriguing prospect.
Grant Greabel 6’1 Guard 2018- The younger Greabel only had 3 points and didn’t have his best offensive game however he is a rising 2018 prospect and is a shifty guard who can shoot the ball and also be crafty and make plays for his teammates. Look for him to continue to develop.
