To start the game Pinnacle game out with a 13-9 lead in the first quarter. Coach Wilde & staff had his boys playing hard from jump. By the end of the first half, Basha outscored Pinnacle in final 4 minutes to take a one point lead 17-16. Pinnacle did a great job keeping Gabe McGlothan scoreless in the first half which was a bad sign for Basha. The saving grace all night for Basha was guard Antwan Ross-Jones. To finish the first half Basha was able to force Pinnacle to turn the rock over 10+ times. Heading into the fourth quarter Pinnacle was down 29-25. Pinnacle had a bit of a run with freshman Trent Brown & number one quarterback in the country in the 2019 class Spencer Rattler however Basha was too athletic and was too much for the Pioneers to handle. Pinnacle fell to Basha 55-35. Basha is heading to the second final four in school history, the first for head coach Mike Grothaus. Pinnacle has nothing to hang it heads for, being the #22 seed and being seen as an underdog all year and finished strong. The future is bright again for the Pioneers of Pinnacle. Basha will play Gilbert in the final four.
Pinnacle
AJ Elliott 6’7 Forward 2016- Elliott was a beast with his size and presence inside where he was able to gobble up a handful of rebounds. He finished with 7 points, shot 3-10 and it wasn’t his best night offensively but look for Elliott to have a nice college career. Elliott is committed to Point Loma.
Nik Mains 6’8 Forward 2016- Mains had a tough night going 1-11 from the field. Finished with just 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks to end his high school career but at PrepHoops Arizona we have seen Mains develop and become a much tougher player & more skilled, next season he will be playing at the Air Force Academy.
Tyson Wahlberg 6’6 Forward 2016- Wahlberg was 2-4 from the field finishing with 4 points, 4 rebounds and was battling hard against all the size Basha was throwing at them. Wahlberg is a D3 prospect.
Trent Brown 6’0 Guard 2019- For being only a freshman Brown might have had the best feel for the game in the gym. He is a high IQ say frosh who led the Pioneers in assists. Brown showed despite being a freshman he isn’t afraid of the big stage & handling pressure. Look for Brown to continue to develop nicely as a college prospect over the next 4 years. The sky is the limit for young Brown.
Spencer Rattler 6’0 Guard 2019- Rattler is a divison 1 football player but he can play a heck of a basketball game too. Rattler was 3-9, finishing with 8 points, 3 rebounds, & athletically helped the Pioneers when they needed it. Time will tell if Rattler continues to play basketball however if he chose to, Rattler could have a promising on the hardwood as well as the gridiron.
Partrick Kelly 6’7 Forward 2017- Kelly stands out due to his size & length especially at his young age. Despite having spot minutes tonight, he rebounded the ball well and in time could grow into one of the top prospects for Coach Wilde in the next couple seasons.
Basha
Gabe McGlothan 6’6 Forward 2017- McGlothan had an off night going 1-2 from the field, didn’t score until the second half. Pinnacle did a good job locking him up however, he was able to get on the glass a couple possessions and come up with big boards in critical possessions. McGlothan will end up being a low-mid major D1 prospect.
Devin Kirby 6’10 Center 2016- Kirby was a big time presence for the Bears standing at 6’10 & being so long finishing with 10 points going 5-58 from the field, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, & was a defensive presence for the Bears. Kirby will be playing at Montana State next season.
Klay Stall 6’9 Center 2016- Stall obviously out with his injury but he is going to play at Utah State University next year.
Antwan Ross-Jones 6’3 Guard 2016- Ross was the surprise key player stepping up for Basha & helping send them to the final four. He finished with 19 points, going 7-15 from the field, getting on the glass, distributing the ball & playing solid defense against Pinnacle. Ross-Jones will find a place to play at the 4-year level.
Terrell Brown 6’3 Guard 2017- Brown also stepped up alongside Ross in the backcourt for the Bears finishing with 11 points, 3 blocks, 6 rebounds and was a breakout player tonight for the Bears. Brown has another year left & will continue to develop with a big spring/summer ahead of him. Look for Brown to become a college prospect at the NAIA/D2 levels.
Brennen Davis 6’4 Guard 2018- Davis had spot minutes off the bench but shows strong potential with his size & length. Look for Davis to continue to develop into a 4-year prospect.
