Continue ReadingThe 1st round matchup between Horizon & Dobson was one of our games on major interest here at PrepHoops Arizona. Earlier they met in the season and Dobson came out on top in a nail biter at Husky Gymnasium. Both coaches, legendary Jerry Conner & Rick McConnell are no stranger to success & postseason. Both coaches combined have won over 1000 games as well as a couple state championships.
The first quarter was a back and forth battle. Horizon did well getting the ball inside to monster workhorse Josh Wenneborg & Jake Hess. The Huskies did quick start was derailed by Dobson continuously pushing the ball on the break for layups. At the end of the first quarter Dobson was ahead 27-19.
The second quarter was once again in control by Dobson. Da”Shawn Ray led the way and at half had 17 points and was scoring from all over the floor. The Huskies had a hard time containing him most of the evening. For the Huskies senior post player Josh Wenneborg & super frosh sharpshooter Aidyn Albright were doing all they can both with 16 & 11 points respectively for the Huskies. As well as being all over the glass on both ends of floor.
After the third quarter the Huskies saw themselves go on a bit of a run and found themselves down by only 6 after struggling to contain the Mustangs. The score was 65-59 as they Huskies kept finding themselves led by Wenneborg, Albright & Jake Hess, & the sharpshooting of young Manti Arifi. However the guard play of Amaury Matthews caught on strong for Dobson and the Huskies & Mustangs found themselves in quite the battle heading into the fourth quarter.
The 4th quarter the Huskies were not able to finish their comeback attempt and fell 92-78. Dobson was led by Amaury Matthews who finished with 21 points, Da”Shawn Ray with 23 points, as well as Kendrick Williams with 14 poinst & James Clark with 12 points.
The Huskies were led by Josh Wenneborg with 30 points, & Aidyn Albright’s 17 points.
Dobson advanced on to the next round as they took on the Gilbert Tigers.
