SG Jordan Goodwin (Belleville Althoff – 2017)
Best performance of the day. Best performance I have witnessed out of the state’s #2 junior. The two boxes in Goodwin’s game that needed to be checked off this season were athleticism and jump shot. He has slimmed down which has allowed him to be quicker and more explosive. The junior cuffed the ball and threw down an impressive dunk that had the crowd going crazy. His lateral quickness defensively continues to make strides. The other box was his biggest weakness with his jump shot. I don’t know if I had ever seen him hit more than one jumper in a game. This game he knocked in 6 or 7 of them. He was in a rhythm, had great form, and drilled them! If he does this consistently he is completely and utterly unguardable. Also Goodwin does what he is best at which is attack downhill getting in the paint and finishing through contact. Such a powerful player around the rim where he also has great body control. Dominant offensive rebounder and plays with an off the charts motor. Plus passer for an off guard. Goodwin is starting to become the complete package as a prospect. He had 30 points (11-18 FG), 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
SF Marvin Bateman (Belleville Althoff – 2017)
Overall quiet game for the 6’5” small forward, but he did get it going with a couple of catch and shoot threes when the opportunities presented themselves. Bateman is one of the premier shooters in the state’s 2017 class with length at the wing spot. He has a quick release and consistent mechanics. Bateman had 8 points (2-3 3PT). Mid-major to low-major prospect.
PG CJ Coldon (Belleville Althoff – 2017)
Coldon continues to produce on the hardwood. A prolific wide receiver it has not been decided what he will do at the next level, but there is no doubt he is a D1 point guard prospect. The 6’1” floor general got in the lane whenever he wanted all night making drives to the hoop and using his vision to find teammates. He knows how to draw contact in the paint and get to the line where he is a plus free throw shooter. One of the more underrated 2017 point guards in the state. He had 15 points and 6 assists in their win.
SG Brandon Trimble (St. Joseph’s Odgen – 2017)
The 6’2” junior put himself on the radar with his performance against Nashville. Trimble is a plus mid-range shooter that gets elevation on his shot. Moves well without the ball off curls, but can also hit it pulling up with a smooth looking stroke. Also an above average athlete Trimble has the ability to explode to the hoop with a strong first step and finishes well around the hoop in both the half court and in transition. Solid passer that has an overall feel for the game. He had 24 points and 3 assists. Worth monitoring going forward.
SF Dawson Berry (Centralia – 2017)
Berry is a 6’3” wing that quietly goes about his business and produces on a consistent basis. The junior was most effective in this particular game with his ability to pass as well as move without the ball to get open. He hit a three and closed out the contest with four big free throws. Berry had 11 points. Small college prospect.
PG Cole Tucker (Dekalb – 2017)
Tucker is a 6’2” point guard prospect that our staff has been monitoring over the last year. He flashes potential throughout the game. Solid athlete that is strong with the ball in his hands and makes crisp passes. Can score in the mid-range. Tucker had 8 points and 3 assists.
PG Jason Towers (St. Joseph’s – 2017)
Towers is a fast and explosive 6’2” point guard with jets in the open floor. Very quick acceleration with the ball in his hands both in transition and the half court off the bounce. Most effective getting in the paint and finishing. Needs to improve the assist/turnover ratio to play PG at the next level. He had 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 4 turnovers. Probably a D2 or JUCO prospect at this point.
PF Lenell Henry (Morgan Park – 2017)
Solid game out of the mobile 6’9” four man from the Mustangs. He has long arms and a projectable body. Will need to add strength going forward, but he runs the floor extremely well and is efficient with his touches. Gets to the free throw line where he shoots a high percentage. Hits the glass high pointing rebounds with his length. Also has active hands defensively for a big man on the defensive end. Finished with 9 points (2-2 FG) (5-6 FT), 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Should be on the low-major D1 radar.
PF Manny Patterson (Kenwood – 2017)
Solid game out of the Kenwood post. Patterson ranks among the best front court options in the junior class. At 6’8” he has wide shoulders and a very strong frame. At times he can be a bit mechanical offensively, but also shows flashes of improvement in the post. He had a high/low finish, quick score off a pass, and split a double team finishing with a hook shot. He is a dominant force on the glass snatching rebounds very aggressively on both ends of the floor and playing with a good motor. Patterson had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Mid-major target in 2017!
SF David Hunt (Kenwood – 2017)
At 6’5” Hunt has mostly been looked at as an undersized four throughout his career. At the O’Fallon Shootout he showed more ability on the perimeter with his skill to handle the ball slashing to the hoop. Athleticism has definitely improved. He is not a good perimeter shooter, but took four threes anyway. If he can focus on attacking the basket with authority, defend, and play physical inside his stock will rise. Hunt had 8 points.
