Saint Mary’s came in with top prospects as well as Mesa but on the other hand Mesa was without senior leader Darius Goudeau. This game came down to the second half. To start the game it wasn’t a offensive game. Mesa led Saint Mary’s 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams did a good job on the defensive end, with Saint Mary’s having an edge 18-13 over Mesa. Mesa put on some pressure and Saint Mary’s struggled slightly. Mark & Drew Hatch caught fire in the second half for the Jackrabbits helping them go on quite the run putting Mesa up over Saint Mary’s at the end of three quarters with a 45-41. In the fourth quarter Mesa went four corners and began to play by play finish out the game with a hard battling Knights team. Mesa would win & advances to final four with a 60-53 win.
Saint Mary’s
Deshawn Wilson 6’5 Forward 2017- Wilson led the way for Saint Mary’s doing all he could for the Knights scoring 16 points, pulling down 8 rebounds and coming up with stops for his team. Wilson will have future chances to make deep playoff runs. Look for the 2017 prospect to continue to develop.
KJ Hymes 6’10 Forward 2018- Hymes finished with 11 points, 3 assists, 1 steal, & 4 rebounds. Hymes used his size & length to attempt to cause matchup problems. Hymes has plenty of time left in his high school career. KJ is a division 1 prospect no question, his ceiling is unlimited in the 2018 class.
Isaiah Walton 6’3 Guard 2016- Walton, the senior went 4-6 from the field, finishing with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists. Walton left many at Wells Fargo Arena impressed with his performance. The 6’3 senior will end his career with a chance to play college basketball at some level.
Mesa
David Cummard 6’0 Guard 2016- Cummard finished with 4 point, 3 rebounds, 1 assists, & 1 steal for the Jackrabbits. Despite not scoring a lot, his presence and leadership is much needed for extended minutes in every game for Mesa.
Drew Hatch 6’4 Guard 2016- Drew Hatch finished with 18 points, going 4-11 from the field, 2-6 from three, & grabbed 5 rebounds. The older Hatch was clutch when he needed to be in the second half for the Jackrabbits. Look for Hatch to continue to push Mesa to a title berth. Hatch could play at the 4 year level in basketball if he doesn’t decide to play college volleyball.
Mark Hatch 6’0 Guard 2018- The younger Hatch was MUCH needed just like big brother. He knocked in 18 points and was the catalyst in a big run leading to the Jackrabbits victory. Look for the younger Hatch to continue to develop for the Jackrabbits.
DJ Henderson 6’3 Guard 2017- Henderson finished with 10 points shooting 50% from the field, grabbing 9 rebounds, one shy of a double-double, as well as adding 4 assists. Henderson as a junior will be looked at in the upcoming year to play a big role but look for him to finish this season by pursuing a state title and being a key role player in that quest.
