He’s a versatile power forward, capable of knocking in a mid-range jumper, and has been identified by at least two area colleges as a prospective prospect.
“I’ve emailed the Grand Valley State assistant coach quite a bit, and the Albion coach invited me to junior day where I got to go watch practice,” said Sellers. “But I haven’t been getting too much. The letters I’ve been getting have been for academics mostly.”
Sellers will play this spring and summer with the Detroit Spartans for his ever-important 17U season, he says he’ll be able to get more exposure as a stretch-four that way.
“They seem like they are a much more prestigious team than who I played with last year, and I just wanted to get my name out there a little bit more. Also they have a 6-foot-10 center, so I could play more of a four, and shoot a little more,” said Sellers.
“I’m hoping that I can get many more options with my recruitment. Right now I’m very limited. I would like to play at the D2 level, but a low-major D1 would be very cool too. But it’s also about finding the right fit.”
He went on to define his playing style to PHM.
“I am a shot-changer, and I’ve been blocking quite a few shots. I can make post-moves and finish around the basket, as well as hit a mid-range jumper, and I take that shot quite often,” he said. “Defensively I’m pretty good on my feet, if I get switched onto a guard I can hold my own against a them.”
He’s been coming off the bench for the Mavericks this season as the sixth man, and says his effort is what makes him most effective.
“They’ve been asking me to get a little bit stronger, and to get in there and box-out and grab rebounds. I just need to be a monster on the boards, and just do what I can on offense; hit shots, set good screens, move players out of the way,” said Sellers.
“I’ve been playing pretty well I think. I just get in the game and work my butt off to the point where coach has to take me out because I’m too tired. I’m just really playing hard.”
