It’ll be a critical few months for the 6-foot-1 combo guard, and he hopes he can generate some interest from college programs who have not yet noticed him.
“Not too many letters or anything yet,” said Mungo. “But I’ve talked to some coaches at open gyms. I’ve talked to a Buffalo coach and a Kansas State coach – that’s about it.”
“I’ve got some mail, but just for camps and stuff.”
Though his recruitment will be of importance to him soon, Mungo says his focus right now lies with helping the Eagles be the best team they can be.
“I’m not really thinking about it (recruitment) too much right now,” he said. “I’m just thinking about trying to help my team. I’ll start thinking about that more come AAU season.”
Mungo — Michigan’s 130th-ranked 2017 — defined his style of play to PHM.
“I’m good at attacking the basket and finishing with a bank,” he said. “I need to work on my jump-shot a little bit, and my defense. I need to work on my spot-up 3-pointer, but I’m shooting as much as I can on the gun, and I’m coming in the mornings and using it.”
He went on to explain his role this season with the Eagles.
“They need me to rebound the ball, and defend. And then just sprint in transition, that’s where I get a lot of my buckets is in transition. I don’t think I’m scoring as much as I should, I’m working on that.
As an undersized shooting guard – at least by college basketball standards – Mungo is currently working to develop his point guard skills.
“I’m working on becoming a point guard because that’s what I’ll probably play in college. I’m just working on getting more comfortable with it,” he said. “I’m a little undersized to be a shooting guard at the next level.”
