“Earlier this week I was emailing the Grand Valley State assistant coach, and I’m going to go up there for a tryout in April,” said Klingel. “And I’ve heard from some Division III schools as well, like Kalamazoo College, Albion, Alma Scots, just smaller schools like that.”
Klingel says he really likes Grand Valley State, but he’d consider playing at the D3 level if the school was the right fit.
“I would consider it (D3), but it would have to be the right school academically too,” he said. “I’m really hoping Grand Valley State works out because I’ve already been on an academic visit there, and I like their school a lot. But I would consider Division III too.”
The good-sized wing described his playing style to PHM, and explained where he still needs ti see improvement.
“I would say my biggest strength is shooting, I’ve hit eight 3s in one game this year, and six in another. I’m also leading my team in rebounding. So I’d say shooting is my best strength and then rebounding,” said Klingel.
“I probably need to work on getting quicker. Over the past three years I’ve definitely gotten stronger and faster each year so it’s definitely improving.”
This season with the Redskins he’s averaging 19 points and 7 rebounds per game, and he’s learned his role well.
“My play has gotten better as the year went on,” said Klingel. “ At the beginning of the year I was still trying to figure out what my role was with the team. Now I know I need to score the ball for our team to win, so as the year has gone on I’ve taken the role as the team’s leading scorer. And then I just try and go out there and lead by example.”
