Continue ReadingTerre Haute South is a really good team this season and they have a little bit of star power with newly committed IUPUI guard Jaylen Minnett and sophomore standout DeAvion Washington. The third guy that more people should be paying attention to is that of senior Matt Deady. The versatile forward is flying well under-the-radar and deserves a little more credit for this team’s success.
The 6’5 wing provides size without giving up athleticism or aggressiveness. He’s a playmaker of sorts and does it from beyond the arc and above the rim. This season especially he has shown his willingness to attack the rim. He has improved in almost every facet of his game and is making his defense a priority. His ability to move as well as he does and being 6’5 allows him to defend multiple spots on the floor and offensively, he can create mismatches.
“I have done well,” Deady said about his improvements over the last year. “I have improved from last year, more aggressive especially on defense. I like the opportunities I get with good defense.”
Some colleges have taken notice of his game and have checked in on him this season. Wabash, Franklin, Purdue-Cal, and St. Joseph (IN) are the current suitors for Matt but he is still looking for his first offer. The 3.5 GPA student is planning on visiting both Wabash and St. Joseph (IN) this March.
“Size and location aren’t that important,” Deady said of what he wants in a school. “I’m looking into majoring in Civil Engineering or a related field.”
Deady can fit in a lot of programs and is plenty capable of playing at the DII level. Matt’s shooting ability from behind the three-point line should allow him to play the three or a four. Defensively, he should matchup with most 3/4/5. Terre Haute South is 13-5 with 6 regular season games remaining. They have two games this week, Thursday at home against Northview and Saturday at home against Franklin Central.
