We saw him put on a show for the ages this season when he dropped 38 points in a win. The 6’2” lefty is a spot up shooter. Anytime he gets the slightest bit of space the ball is in the air. Also shows some ability off the bounce with quick change of direction in the lane hitting runners and layups.
Matthews discussed his senior campaign.
“It is going good. I had a rocky start at the beginning. I have had a couple big games. We aren’t where we thought we would be, but we are doing good.”
What does he feel his strengths are as a player?
“My game mostly is labeled as a shooter. I try to play all-around. Pass it, try to get to the bucket, and a little bit of everything. I can hit a lot of threes!”
Matthews is not getting any college attention. That needs to change ASAP! D3, NAIA, and JUCO ALERT!
“I don’t really have anybody recruiting me.”
He played with Illinois Fastbreak on the grassroots circuit.
