The 6-foot-4 wing has good size to go with his plus speed, and feels that he may be flying under the radar bit.
“I have a taller frame, so I draw the taller guys to guard me, but I can handle the ball too, so I can get by the bigger guys who are usually not as quick, and I can get to the hoop. I played soccer and that elevated my foot-speed. And then I’ll knock in 3s — if I’m open, I can shoot,” said Pavelka, who mentioned his current recruitment situation.
“Not that much, a couple letters from some D3 schools, like Albion and some other small programs. I think everybody’s dream is to play D1, but I think I’d fit in best at a D2 school. I just need to start talking to some coaches, I haven’t started doing that yet.”
“Being honest, I think I’m a little under the radar, but that’ll all come. I just need to play my game.”
A Cedar Springs junior, Pavelka played with Grand Rapids Storm last offseason, but says he’s unsure of ho he’ll run with during his ever-important 17U grassroots season.
“I’ve been thinking about it, but I’m still open. I’m going to go to a couple other tryouts to see if I like other teams,” said Pavelka, who mentioned what he’ll look to work on this spring and summer.
“I’d say looking for my shot more, and having more confidence in my shot — sometimes I’m thinking about it too much and I need to just shoot it.”
The junior prospect — PHM’s 134th-ranked 2017 — is averaging 12 points per game this season as a starting wing. He explained what his role has been this season with the Red Hawks.
“They’ve needed me to score, I’m one of the top three guys that we go to if we need a game-tying, or go-ahead bucket,” said Pavelka. “And they just need me to run the floor as a wing and push the ball up the floor.”
