At nearly 20 points a game, he’s helped to put the Raiders in the best spot since the 2006-07 season where they went 21-4 and lost in the Regional Championship.
Griggs, a 6’4 senior, has been this team’s leader since he was a freshman. In his first high school season he averaged 13.9 points, as a sophomore, he had 15.9, and now as a junior he has 19.9 and is only 46 points away from 1,000 career points.
Griggs isn’t a big time athlete nor is he a deep threat on the offensive end but he’s got size and aggressiveness and knows how to finish around the rim. Shooting 62% from the field, he does almost all of his work around the basket. He gets just over six rebounds a game and seems to make the most out of the ones on the offensive end.
“As a player I would say I’m doing well however not where I would like to be,” Gavin said. “I’m becoming a better ball handler and passer all the time. My mid range jump shot has improved the most and I would say my 3 point shot is constantly improving as well.”
Griggs has already picked up a little bit of interest from colleges. Albion and Anderson are two schools that Gavin says have reached out to him. He’s a little bit of an unknown by some but this season has helped to put him on the map a bit. If Shenandoah makes a deep run in the tournament, his stock could continue to rise.
As far as the next level, Gavin has already put a little bit of thought into it. He’s looking into an array of majors but mentions Business, Marketing, or even Chiropractics could be options.
“I would like to play at the highest level I can fit in with but, I would like a school obviously with a degree program I would want, I don’t think location would be an issue for me.”
