Continue ReadingAs the basketball in Canada continues to grow, there have been a number of players that have come to Virginia to make their mark in high school and the recruiting scene. Along with Lindell Wigginton of Oak Hill and Keshon Montague of Mount Mission, among others, 6’7” Gabe Osabuohien of Carlisle is one of those players.
“The talent level down here is a lot better,” Osabuohien said about playing in America. “I’ve played against Kentucky commits, several high major players, and the game is much quicker and better.”
Osabuohien has emerged on the scene as a forward with a very high ceiling. The long and athletic wing is averaging 13.5 points and 9 rebounds per game, and Head Coach Jason Niblett believes it’s just the beginning for him.
Gabe Osabuohien should blow up this summer in AAU.“Gabe is a very versatile wing that can play and guard multiple positions. The sky is the limit for the young man if he continues to mature and get stronger as a player,” Niblett said.
Niblett isn’t the only one who sees it in him, as many high major programs along the east coast have expressed interest in the junior. While he’s without an offer at the moment, he mentions Virginia Tech, Georgetown, VCU and Clemson as some of the programs that have reached out to him.
He’s already an impact player because of his freakish length and athletic ability, but Osabuohien has shown flashes of a high major skill set. He’s able to put it on the floor, get to the basket, score on the offensive glass and his jump shot has shown much improvement. As he continues to work on his outside game, he’ll become a walking mismatch going forward.
After a solid junior season, Osabuohien will be one to watch on the AAU circuit this summer. With his length, versatility and ability to impact the game in many different ways, don’t be surprised if the offers begin to roll in going into his senior season.
