Continue ReadingSince his arrival at John Champe High School in December, Dominik Fragala has quickly transitioned into an integral part of a 4A regional championship contender. The junior, who was at Bishop O’Connell in the WCAC last season, is an explosive, skilled point guard who demonstrates an advanced feel and understanding of the game.
“I’ve been playing since I was little,” Fragala explained. “My dad put the ball in my hands when I was six.”
Fragala helped seal a victory in the 4A West Semifinal vs. William Byrd by securing a key offensive rebound late in Q4Widely regarded as a shooter, Dom is very comfortable as a primary ball handler where he enjoys reading the defense and setting up open teammates for easy baskets. At about 5-foot-9, most would assume defense is one of his weaknesses. In fact, he uses his quickness and heady demeanor to turn his perceived weakness into one of the best parts of his game. Fragala is an absolute ball-hawk, and is a very alert defender both on and off the ball.
This season, he’s second on the team with an 18 point per game scoring average. He erupted for 41 points in just his third game with the team. Another example which demonstrates Dominik’s excellent shooting touch is his 87% free throw percentage in nearly 120 attempts so far this season. If he continues to add strength, which will be important for a guard his size, there is no question that he grades out as a division 1 point guard.
Dominik is a fixture on the honor roll, and sports a healthy 3.3 GPA. Claiming interest from VCU, ECU, North Florida, and Quinnipac, look for his recruitment to take shape this spring and summer.
