Not this year. Leiferman is the biggest guy on his team and does grab a team high eight rebounds a contest. What he is also doing is putting up 16.1 points per game showing perimeter skill making shots with feet set or off the bounce.
“I feel like I’ve stepped up as a leader and fell into my role,” said Leiferman. “From last year, my scoring and aggressiveness has improved. I need to keep working on my shooting and some post play.”
Devon is making 44 percent of his shots overall including 30 percent of the four or five treys he takes each night. Devon is also a solid foul shooter at 71 percent plus he’s averaging nearly two steals a contest.
Winner is 10-5 on the season. They won eight of their first ten games but have since dropped three of their last five before hammering Cheyenne-Eagle Butte over the weekend.
“Our season started out a little slower than we would have liked but being a young team we are still learning a lot,” Devon said about his team’s consistency of play.
“We pride ourselves around defense which has been strong for us. We’re continuing to figure out our offense which will be key to us getting better.”
Winner has held their opponents to 40 or less points in half of their games this season and only five opponents have topped 50 points. The experience of playing in a strong defensive program with good coaching is another reason Devon has grown as a prospect.
Where he will go to college is another question but Leiferman is talking to several programs.
“I’m still unsure of where I want to go but I’ve talked to Black Hills State, Concordia, Presentation, Jamestown, Northland, Nebraska Wesleyan, and that’s about it so far,” Devon said.
