Mount St. Joseph and John Carroll won semifinal games in the Baltimore Catholic League and are set to meet in Monday’s championship match-up.
St. Joe (top seed) rolled to an easy 93-51 victory over Calvert Hall (number four) in that semifinal match-up on Sunday. The victory moved the Gaels to 31-4 this season, per The Sun.
John Carroll pulled off a surprise with its 60-33 victory over St. Frances, the team ranked No. 1 by The Sun in its poll. The Patriots jumped to a 33-18 halftime lead and never looked back, per The Sun.
In the St. Joe game, Randy Miller and Miles Wilson led the way with 17 points apiece. According to The Sun, five players scored in double figures, and that proved too much for Calvert Hall, who was led by Brendan Adams’ 12-point effort.
Calvert Hall is 17-14 overall.
The other game saw John Carroll limit a very good Panther offense to just those 33 points thanks to solid defense.
St. Frances scored those 18 points in the first half and just 15 in the second half. The Patriots played tough defense from start to finish and shut down the St. Frances offense — and that proved to be the difference.
Immanuel Quickley topped John Carroll with 16 points.
John Carroll now is 24-10 while St. Frances stands at 30-9.
The championship game, like the rest of the tournament, will be played at Towson Universitiy’s SECU Arena on Monday.
