Kurk Lee, Jr. of St. Frances is the Maryland Player of the Week thanks to his great performance in the MIAA A Conference championship game on Sunday as the Panthers beat Mount St. Joseph.
Lee’s father was one of the best guards at Towson University and played one season in the NBA in the early 90’s. He also was a great high school guard in Baltimore.
But the younger Lee, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, really helped St. Frances to the title. Here’s a brief look at why he stood out.
WHO HE IS: A 5-foot-10 senior guard at St. Frances
WHAT HE DID: Lee Jr. scored 29 points and had eight assists, according to The Sun, as St. Frances topped Mount St. Joseph, 75-67 in Sunday night’s championship game.
WHY IT’S GREAT: Lee’s been a solid offensive player this season, averaging in double figures, but he came through at the right time Sunday. The Panthers started slowly and were down by nine in the first half before he took over.
HOW IT HELPED: St. Frances was down early but Lee’s 12-point effort in the second quarter, as per The Sun, really helped give the Panthers a charge.
WHO’S WATCHING AT THE NEXT LEVEL: The verbalcommits.com site said he’s drawing interest from UMES (Maryland-Eastern Shore) and Western Kentucky.
