-Wednesday Games-
#4 Gilbert at #1 Corona del Sol
This game will determine who is the top seed in Division-I Section-I. Both the Tigers and the Aztecs currently sit with a 6-1 section record. It is senior night and you can bet that this will be the most rowdy crowd of the season for CDS. There’s a lot on the line so the energy in the building will be exuberant! While, both, Chris Bowling and Jacob Nicolds have played and succeeded in hostile environments before, the talent of the Aztecs will overwhelm Gilbert. This is Wednesday’s Game of the Night.
McClintock vs Seton Catholic Prep (D2, Section 6 Quarterfinals)
The Chargers finished the season strong with a big win over Higley. They have shown all year long that when they’re clicking on all cylinders they are a potential top ten team. They take on a Jake Rueter led SCP that has been solid this season, especially when their role players are knocking down shots. Look for the aggressive guard play of McClintock and the rebounding of Davion Green to lift the Chargers over the Sentinals. The winner will take on Gilbert Christian in the semifinals.
Moon Valley vs Cortez (D3, Section 4 Quarterfinals)
Both Moon Valley and Cortez have had solid years. The Rockets are the bigger, more athletic team but the Colts like to run as well. This will be a close matchup. But, like their last matchup, expect Cortez to come out victorious. The winner will take on Mingus Union in the semifinals.
-Thursday Games-
Desert Mountain at #6 Mountain Ridge
Mountain Ridge is looking to finish the regular season strong as they head into the sectional playoffs. Desert Mountain has had a solid year thus far but stumbled a little down the stretch. Expect this to be a heated game with the Mountain Lions’ athleticism overwhelming the Wolves in the end.
Dobson at Perry
A matchup between two teams on the outside of the top ten looking in. Both Dobson and Perry have had some big wins this season but they have been a bit inconsistent. Look for a heated matchup between senior guards Kyle VanHaren and Amaury Matthews. Ultimately, Perry’s size should be the deciding factor as we expect the Pumas to squeak by with a victory.
#8 Saguaro vs #5 Paradise Valley (D2, Section 3 Semifinals)
A marquee matchup on Tuesday night, Paradise Valley has already collected two wins over the Sabrecats. There’s a saying that it’s always hard to beat a good team three times. Believe that to be true in this instance as we predict Saguaro to come up victorious. This is Thursday’s Game of the Night.
Arcadia vs #1 Shadow Mountain (D2, Section 3 Semifinals)
When the Titans and Matadors met earlier this season at Arcadia it was Shadow that came out on top, winning the game 88-71. Don’t expect much of a different outcome this time around either as the Matadors are just that dominant this season.
