Recently expanded, the watch list gives a quick look at some of the players that have a chance to grow into college level prospects in the future. Each week more and more of these players surface. Here is a look at some of the prospects recently added to this list.
Kindom Artis 6’2” SG Campo Verde – The lengthy wing had a solid freshman campaign for Coyotes. The Gilbert native averaged 5 points while shooting 47% from beyond the arch. With his size, Artis has good potential and upside. He finished his first season strong with big performances in his last two games, scoring 17 points in a 2 point loss to Marcos de Niza and 16 points in a win over Seton Catholic Prep.
BJ Burries 5’9” PG Globe – By now everybody should be aware of the spectacular game that Burries posted, scoring 68 points in Double OT against Florence. What some are unware of is the fact that he averaged 23 points while scoring 20+ points in 50% of his games including other highs of 46, 35, 33, and 30 and only scoring less than 10 points in two early December games. The lefty guard has a great change of pace and an array of finishes within 10 feet. Also, though his form is a bit funky, he shoots the ball with deep range.
Kyle Patterson 6’3” SG Gilbert Christian – While Vean Simon picked up the majority of the attention in the Knights’ freshman class, Patterson quietly put together a very solid season. Starting at the small forward position, Kyle showed good poise all season and had a rather productive year. Averaging 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists the 6’3” wing played his role well. He knocked down open shots, attacked the glass, and found his team’s scorers. He’s certainly one to watch, especially if he grows.
Spencer Rattler 6’0” PG Pinnacle – Rattler made quite the splash for the Pioneers on the gridiron, starting as the football team’s quarterback as a freshman. He’s got plenty of BCS programs focusing on him at an early age so it’s pretty clear that he will be higher projected as a football prospect. However, the 2019 prospect brings the toughness to the basketball court as well. Backing up fellow freshman Trent Brown, Spencer brings in an aggressive approach to the point guard position. He’s got the athleticism to make plays with the ball in his hands and isn’t afraid to do so. He also shot the ball well from 3, shooting at a 38% clip form beyond the arch.
Grant Ward 6’4” SG Buena – At one point, Coach Glasgow referred to Ward as the best prospect he has ever coached. At 6’4”, Grant is a sizey perimeter performer with good versatility. He plays both guard slots for the Colts and finished the year as their third leading scorer behind their senior leader and another freshman Kino Bellinger. Grant has a lot of upside and, once he becomes more efficient, has a chance to develop into one of the top players in the Southern Arizona area.
