Continue ReadingThe wing group is the deepest group in the class of 2016 with 70 overall prospects—42 shooting guards and 28 small forwards. It is a group that has a lot of tools including size, shooting, and athleticism. Here is a look at the strengths and weaknesses at these positions.
-Strengths-
Athleticism
This is one of the most athletic classes in Arizona history, mainly because of the wings. The athleticism in this group makes for high flyers, big time perimeter rebounders, and versatile defenders. Players like Jay Green and JJ Rhymes play much bigger than what they are. Chris Bowling is an aggressive high flyers and guys like Antwan Ross, Jalen Holman, and Elijah Sikora can make plays with their athletic abilities.
Late Bloomers
There are a lot of wings in this class that haven’t hit their stride yet. Until this summer Antwan Ross was a reserve that could defend for the Bears. Now he is a player imposing his will on both ends of the floor. Gresyn Rogers had no notoriety until joining Passion4Ball last spring and players like Jalen Holman, Ebenezer Hakizimana, Harrison Hilliard, and Elijah Sikora haven’t even begun to blossom in to the players they can become. Expect a lot of these wings to develop into the best players in their class by the time their collegiate careers are over.
-Weaknesses-
High Major Talent
There is a lack of true high major talent in this group. Jay Green has a chance due to his strength, frame, and athletic ability. Outside of that (and possibly JJ Rhymes at the mid major level) the ceiling tops out at low major for this group.
