Matt Downey 6’1” Boulder Creek (Rank: 44/Prev. Rk: 50)
Downey is a player who has always been pretty skilled but was a bit undersized. Towards the end of the summer he hit a growth spurt and his difference in size, alone, has helped his stock rise. Matt is a smooth, high IQ playmaker that plays within himself. He’s continuing to improve his perimeter shot but has shown the ability to create scoring options for himself and teammates with his change of pace and direction.
Kyle VanHaren 5’11” Perry (Rank: 45/Prev. Rk: 105)
Last season it was tough to tell just how good VanHaren was as his running mate Markus Howard had the ball in his hands for the majority of games. This season Kyle has shown that he can run a team. He isn’t a big vocal leader but has shown that he can control tempo and get the ball where it needs to be.
Amuary Matthews 6’1” Dobson (Rank: 50/Prev. Rk: 62)
Matthews has been great all season long. While he showed flashes of the player he could be last year this season he has put it together. After Dobson lost their leading scorer Mike Mellinger, Amaury stepped into the leadership role and has the Mustangs rolling.
Malique Washington 6’0” McClintock (Rank: 52/Prev. Rk: 63)
One thing that was never doubted was Washington’s competitiveness. However, he is beginning to learn to play to his strengths. This season Malique has been great at playing on the attack. He constantly looks to put pressure on the defense by pushing the ball in transition, getting to the paint, and drawing contact or finishing instead of settling for outside shots.
Cesar Ozuna 5’9” Sunnyside (Rank: 75/Prev. Rk: 81)
Ozuna has had a strong season, keeping the Blue Devils in or right outside the Top 10 all year long. He has shown that he wants the ball in the biggest moments of the game and is ready to make plays with the game on the line.
