Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park)
Yes he moved up only one spot in the overall ranking, but the state’s top floor general deserves this recognition! Dosunmu is a potential star in the class of 2018. He has fit in easily into the starting lineup on a veteran Mustangs team. The sophomore point guard has range on his jump shot which easily stretches to beyond the three point arc. In the open floor he has a burst of speed with the ball. Defensively he is extremely effective pressuring and trapping defenders while causing turnovers. Needs to start being pursued by high major schools.
Xavier Castaneda (Whitney Young)
Castaneda is one of the top lead guards in the state’s sophomore class. After an injury plagued summer with Meanstreets the sophomore point guard is back healthy and has looked clearly like the Dolphins best player. The 5’10” strongly built floor general looks to attack. He consistently knocks down pull up mid-range jump shots. Great elevation on the shot while staying balanced and in rhythm. Also has some ability off the bounce with impressive speed on his first step. Solid passer that draws defenders and can find open teammates.
Brandon Simberg (Lake Forest Academy)
Simberg is a point guard that was extremely impressive with his high IQ and the way he commanded the game at the PrepHoopsIllinois Combine in the late fall. The 5’8” sophomore is a plus passer in the open floor having several spectacular finds to his teammates for layups. His speed and the way he kept pushing the tempo really caused a problem for his opponent. Also showed he could score a little too with nice runners in the lane and sound shot mechanics. One to watch going forward especially if he grows.
