These eight players are some of the most dedicated and improved players, and coaches have been all over them this season. Stay tuned for the rest of our best available this week at Vantage Hoops.
Charles Falden; 6’3; LC Bird
If you need a pure scorer, there aren’t many left in the state that are better than Falden. The Conference 12 Player of the Year was playing on JV just two years ago, and has blossomed into a three level scorer that excels in isolation situations and in the midrange. Falden has good size, rebounds well and plays with a chip that shows in big games and big match ups. He’s a solid two way player that can play in multiple systems.
Jakub Mijakowski; 6’7; Mount Mission
A top notch shooter with great size, Mijakowski has scorched nets all season with Mount Mission and has flown relatively under the radar because of their deep and talented team. Mijakowski is a knock down specialist, and is good in a zone because he can play at the top and in the post. He’s a solid rebounder, and plays his butt off every possession. He holds offers from several division one schools.
Lamont Steward; 6’5; Norview
He’s both versatile and raw, so you see the potential in him and know he still has room to grow. Steward is a wing with good size that can score it in a multitude of ways both off the catch and the bounce. He can guard on both the perimeter and in the post, and can be an efficient scorer with some fine tuning of his game. He’d benefit a lot from a prep year.
Tyland Crawford; 6’3; CD Hylton
Another late bloomer, Crawford has a man’s body and a strong game to go along with it. He’s a slasher that absorbs contact and finishes at the rim and in the midrange. He can play both in transition and in the half court, and is an efficient scorer that won’t shoot you out of a game. Scholarship talent player.
Richard Legree; 6’5; Meadowbrook
Another Meadowbrook wing that can score it really well, Legree had a huge year averaging close to 17 points per game for the Monarchs. His length and ability to score it in the mid range makes him an effective scorer in the half court, and he also has good springs and will go above the rim in transition. He’ll be a great option for any JUCO school looking for a scorer.
Travius Smith; 6’3; Lake Taylor
A defensive minded wing with great length and a high motor, Smith gets after it in the press where he thrives at the top deflecting passes and forcing errant ones as well. In transition, he’s a walking highlight reel who finishes above the rim regularly and is always attacking the glass to keep plays alive. He still needs to work on his perimeter game, and a prep year would do him wonders in his recruitment.
Drejon Boley; 6’3; James Monroe
Boley was an All State selection as a junior, and has continued his success and become a true leader for a yellowjackets team that is starting to come together late. He is the prototypical wing, one that is long and bouncy and thrives running the floor in transition and chasing down players defensively for huge blocks. He continues to improve his perimeter game, and his jump shot has become reliable enough that defenses have to close out on him.
Sterling Carrington; 6’5; Green Run
Carrington has played in the post for most of his high school career, so it’s made him a physical player. He’ll bang with bigs on the glass and guard players much taller than him all over the floor. Transitioning to the wing shouldn’t be too difficult however, because he has a solid understanding of the game and is a versatile player with the ball in his hands.
