A small town basketball game surprised and led to a big time scoring battle between opposing point guards. Seeger (8-3) took the win over Southmont (6-6) in a back and forth battle til the end 84-75.
Seeger:
Borden Kennedy
6’2 – PG – 2016
Kennedy was the reason Seeger won the game tonight. He was active on both ends of the court and for a guard, that’s a good thing. He scored 36 points on just 14 shots. He was aggressive on the drive getting to the bucket with relative ease and converting. Also hit the clutch free throws down the stretch going 13/15. Even with putting up 36 points he found a way to give his teammates open looks handing out seven assists. Really loved defensively how he crashed the boards, probably more impressive than his scoring as he was the leading rebounder with nine, all of which were in traffic that he grabbed out of the air. – 36 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists
Josh Orahood
6’5 – PF – 2016
Orahood is a good interior post guy who can really stretch it out from the paint area. Didn’t take any jumpers but once he got the ball faced up and drove in and had a little bit of success doing so. Scored 11 points all on shots at the rim. He’s long and lanky and knows how to use that to his advantage over the smaller guys. Had four fouls in the game so he sat most of the second half but still added in five rebounds. – 11 points, 5 rebounds
Landon Stetler
6’3 – SF – 2018
Stetler was a little surprising to me in this one. He’s got a nice outside shot but he earns his keep on the defensive end. Played really well there on the perimeter and was able to keep his man out of the paint on the most part. He got in the passing lanes and really threw off Southmont. Good finisher in transition. Picked up four fouls in the third quarter as well so he sat for an extended period of time like Orahood. – 11 points, 5 rebounds
Brock Bowlus
5’8 – SG – 2018
Bowlus is not the type of kid you would think could put up 20 points in a game, ever. He’s 5’8 and a very skinny and small frame. He got to the rim effectively and contorted his body to draw contact and converted well. He has a decent looking shot from the outside but did most of his work driving and getting to the line while adding in a few deep ones as well. – 20 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
Southmont:
Camden Chadd
6’1 – PG – 2018
Chadd looked pretty good in this game, maybe better than Kennedy scoring wise. He took over the first quarter and scored 16 points. He showed a nice looking step back jumper but like Kennedy most of his points came at the rim. Finished with contact really well in this one and knew when to shoot the ball and when to pass it. Nice body and plays decently well with it but is still growing into the frame and needs to know that he can take over a game like this one. Few nice passes as well, including a behind the back in traffic. – 34 points, 2 assists
Kaleb Swick
6’4 – PF – 2017
Swick was interesting in this game. In the first half he did not do much but once Chadd cooled down Swick came on in relief. He’s a smaller forward, but good size for this size of a school. He was aggressive in the paint scoring 19 points and he also stepped out and hit a three. They put him at the top in the fourth quarter and had him drive, which was effective on getting him to the rim but once he was there he kind of rushed the shot. He was stronger than anyone Seeger had which led to seven rebounds on defense. – 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists
Jarrett Todd
6’2 – PG – 2016
Typical defense first player that can shoot when called for. Skinny frame but seemed to stay in front of his man and he was called on to faceguard Kennedy in the latter part of the game which was effective until he started to foul. Hit 3/6 from deep and has a quick, repeatable shot that looks good in space. – 10 points, 5 rebounds
