This was a tight game all the way through. The marque matchup of senior point guards Tommy Kuhse (Mountain View) and Kyle Van Haren (Perry) was what it was built up to be. The Toros had an early 27-22 lead at the half but the Pumas weren’t going down without a fight. In the end, Mountain View’s defense led them to a 56-52 victory.
Mesa Mountain View
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |
---|---|---|---|
Tommy Kuhse | PG | 6'1 | 2016 |
Kuhse was very good for Mountain View, controlling the pace and tempo of the game. Nearly every point the Toros scored in the first half was created by Tommy. He knocked in shots from the perimeter and used his change of pace to get past defenders and make plays in the paint. He is a high level D2, NAIA D1 prospect. | |||
John Trendler | C | 6'8 | 2016 |
Trendler is a big guy that college coaches love because he’s just solid. The 6’8” big body set screens well and attacked the glass. He understands how to use his body in the post, has good hands, and solid footwork. D2 and NAIA D1s should be all over him. | |||
Curtis Hodges | PF | 6'8 | 2017 |
Hodges has moved into the Toros’ starting line up. While he didn’t do a ton offensively he certainly made an impact as he defended and rebounded well. He is a low major D1 prospect with even higher upside. |
Perry
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |
---|---|---|---|
Kyle Van Haren | PG | 5'11 | 2016 |
The senior point guard ran the team well. He played with great poise and toughness. His change of direction in transition makes him hard to stay in front of. A smart, cerebral guard, Kyle is a great fit for the D3, NAIA D2 level and could possibly be a nice pickup for a D2, NAIA D1 program. | |||
Blake Williams | SF | 6'3 | 2017 |
Blake was challenged with the act of defending Tommy Kuhse. The 6’3” wing used his length to try to disrupt Kuhse’s playmaking and, on all accounts, did a solid job. He also had a nice drive on the offensive end. A prospect for the D3, NAIA D2 levels. | |||
Rajhan Billingsley | F | 6'4 | 2017 |
Rahjan played tough and physical. While he made his biggest impact on the glass he was also able to put it on the floor for short drives, finish at the rim, and get to the free throw line. NAIA D2 and D3 programs should be on him heavily. | |||
Jake Schulte | PF | 6'7 | 2017 |
Schulte is a new face for PrepHoopsArizona. The 6’7” junior showed some tools and is definitely someone to keep an eye on. He played hard and was very active around the paint. He also pursued rebounds off the rim. While he needs to improve his touch at the basket, he’s someone that D2, NAIA D1, D3, and NAIA D2 programs should all keep an eye on. |
