Jon Ross Richadson
6’6 – SF – 2017
Jon was really good in this game and came up huge late with some key threes. Richardson is a long, lanky wing who can shoot it and help defensively a bit. Between him and Herrington, they were able to keep LC at bay a bit with their drives from the perimeter because they didn’t know how to handle the size/length. Richardson’s game is more as a wing shooter right now but he can get into the lane a bit and did so last night. LC’s scrappy guards made that difficult but Jon did well to hard dribble into the paint and then get the ball high and out of their reach. He’s pretty fundamental and doesn’t hurt a team because of any deficiency. He’s a guy that adds value even if he doesn’t go out and get you double-digit points every game. He was clutch tonight, though, as a shooter and when he was ready to shoot you couldn’t stop him.
Triston Carpenter
6’4 – PF – 2016
Carpenter was probably the player of the game up until he lost a tooth and left the game. Triston was really effective in the paint as Liberty Christian struggled to slow his size. He worked baseline a ton and was able to carve out space even though he wasn’t the biggest guy, strength wise. Carpenter was big in the first half when Lapel struggled to get a ton of clean looks and they didn’t want to shoot themselves out of the game. Triston’s aggressiveness was the difference maker. Plays more of a post spot and he seems comfortable with it.
Kamron Herrington
6’3 – SG – 2016
Have to give Herrington credit, didn’t think he would stand up to the LC pressure as much as he did. The 6’3 guard did well running the point and continues to make you believe that could be his position at the next level. If not, worst case is he is a tall two-guard who can shoot it from deep. He’s long and knows how to shoot over guys but also likes to be well beyond three point line which makes him really difficult to defend if he decides to shoot. Defensively, he is aggressive and even though LC beat him with speed a few times, as the game wore on he was able to create some steals in the passing lanes. Good look for a NAIA needing a guard with some upside in the class.
Liberty Christian:
Ronny Williams
5’9 – PG – 2017
This game was Williams’ the whole time. He controlled it with his scoring, defense, and ball handling. Lapel was only really able to create turnovers when anyone other than Williams had the ball. Ronny shot the well very good and without his offense early, this could have been all Lapel. He made good decisions on when and where to shoot which negated the bad choices some of his other teammates took. His uptempo style is what LC feeds off of and it got to Lapel early. Ronny will be a name to watch this summer to see how he does against different, more talented teams and players.
Greg Dixon
6’3 – SG – 2016
This was the type of game I needed to see out of Dixon. He’s always been the 3rd or 4th guy, scoring wise, on this team. His aggressiveness and finishing ability were what he had yet to show. Greg doesn’t have a diverse game as a physical, athletic guard who likes to power his way around the rim. He didn’t miss for a long time and might have been perfect from the field in the first half. Can finish through most attacking the rim. He took a few deep threes early in the game but that isn’t a skill he has yet. Will need to add that but looks like he could with some work.
