This was a game that was thought to be a lopsided one from the jump as Red Mountain was playing without their key interior presence Trace Edmier. However, the Lions did not give in. They played hard and kept it close for a long stretch of the game before a few transition baskets from the Thunder opened up the lead. Desert Vista left this game with a 70-50 victory.
Desert Vista
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |
---|---|---|---|
Caleb Simmons | SG | 6'5 | 2017 |
Simmons was great on Tuesday. The 6'5" wing showed a lot of leadership for the Thunder. He was tough, efficient with his handle in the half court, made shots, defended every position, pursued rebounds on the glass, and got his team multiple extra possessions by exerting maximum effort. A solid mid major recruit. | |||
Tarik Cool | PG | 6'1 | 2016 |
Cool didn't do anything spectacular but had a solid performance. The senior guard has gotten stronger. He plays at his own pace and showed a solid skill level and feel for the game. He is a solid D2, NAIA D1 prospect. | |||
Jamil Toney | PF | 6'5 | 2016 |
A lengthy a bouncy forward. Toney is very mobile. The athletic senior crashed the glass hard and was relentless around the rim. In addition, he showed flashes of being a very good face up passer, especially in the high/low. D3 and NAIA D2 programs should look into him. However, he may be a poised for a track scholarship at the D1 level as a high jumper. | |||
Antwain Baker | SG | 6'2 | 2016 |
Baker had a solid outing. He didn’t do anything spectacular but defended hard and finished plays that his teammates created. Worth a D3, NAIA D2 look. | |||
DJ Hamilton | SF | 6'4 | 2016 |
As always Hamilton was very physical. He rebounded at a high level. Offensively he played very aggressively, constantly attacking the rim with short drives and offensive putbacks. A D3, NAIA D2 level recruit. | |||
Duane Miller | PG | 5'11 | 2018 |
Miller was very good at pushing the ball in transition. He has a good feel for the game and made good decisions. He plays within himself and knows how to use his abilities to affect the game. A smaller college level prospect. | |||
Aishwar Kumar | PG | 5'11 | 2018 |
Kumar was solid pushing the ball for the Thunder. The sophomore guard has a skilled handle, gets to the paint where he finds teammates, and can also shoot the outside shot. He was solid throughout the game and is a guy all small college programs should follow. | |||
Wesley Harris | F | 6'5 | 2018 |
A tough, physical forward Harris displayed his physical tools and athletic abilities. He’s, both, bouncy and explosive which allowed him to grab multiple rebounds in traffic. A small college level prospect. | |||
Steele Bennett | PF | 6'9 | 2018 |
Steele has a lot of tools and it was obvious. At 6’9” he’s lengthy and moves well. He also has a soft touch at the rim. There’s no question Bennett is raw but he’s still developing and has a chance to be a player at some Division I level. | |||
Walter Talley | F | 6'6 | 2019 |
Walter is a man child among his peers in the 2019 class. He is a big forward with a physical frame and great mobility. While he doesn’t have a great understanding of the game his frame and tools are impressive. He attacked the basket hard and made some good moves in transition. A Division-I prospect at this point. |
Red Mountain
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |
---|---|---|---|
Andres Mayberry | PG | 5'10 | 2017 |
Andres was tough on Tuesday. While he didn’t put up big numbers he played aggressively and handled pressure well. D3 and NAIA D2s should give him a look. | |||
Desi Ethridge | PG | 5'10 | 2016 |
Ethridge played with a great amount of toughness. He’s a strong guard that attacked the rim hard, went to the glass, and played a physical brand of basketball. Worth a D3, NAIA D2 look. | |||
Chance Johns | PF | 6'6 | 2017 |
Johns played very hard. He is long and wasn’t afraid to battle inside. He rebounded well and stepped in and took a charge as well. He’s worth a D3, NAIA D2 look. |
