Considering that Basha has two Division-I caliber posts and Sunnyside’s best post player (Santino Duarte) was not performing you would have thought, coming in, that this game may be lopsided…well, someone forgot to tell that to Sunnyside. The Southern Arizona squad played with relentlessness and intensity for the full duration of their game, which went into overtime. However, they came up short as the Bears took the contest 56-52.
Basha
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |
---|---|---|---|
Devin Kirby | PF | 6'9 | 2016 |
The Montana State signee did not get many touches throughout the game which was interesting, especially considering the fact that Sunnyside’s only legitimate post player was out. Despite that, he still made a presence on the defensive end by altering shots and grabbing rebounds down the stretch. | |||
Gabe McGlothan | PF | 6'5 | 2017 |
Like Kirby, McGlothan seemed like an afterthought offensively for the Bears, attempting only one shot until late in the game. Regardless, he was—as always—great on the glass. A low major, D1 or Division-II/NAIA D1 prospect. | |||
Terrell Brown | SG | 6'3 | 2017 |
Brown had a solid game. While he didn’t do anything spectacular he was steady for Basha. He defended well, rebounded from the perimeter, and knocked down a couple shots. He’s definitely a player for all small colleges to keep an eye on. | |||
Nico Daal | SG | 6'1 | 2017 |
Daal made some impressive plays. The junior wing played with good poise throughout the entire game. He made big shot after big shot to keep the Bears on top in a close one. Division-III/NAIA D2’s should take a look. |
Sunnyside
Name | Pos | Hgt | Class |
---|---|---|---|
Jacob Inclan | SF | 6'3 | 2016 |
Inclan didn’t stand out quite as much this game but they still looked for their top player to make plays which he did, primarily on the defensive end. He’s got a solid build and definitely has some toughness. Division-III/NAIA D2’s should be all over him. | |||
Cesar Ozuna | PG | 5'10 | 2017 |
Ozuna had a standout game for Sunnyside. The senior was the leader on the floor and hit a ton of big shots down the stretch. Those his form is awkward he was pretty consistent knocking down pull up jumpers from the mid range area. Division-III/NAIA D2 schools should give him a look. | |||
Mikey Silva | PG | 5'8 | 2017 |
Silva did a great job getting into the paint. The junior guard was the team’s primary ball handler and did a good job of knocking down shots in the clutch. Right now he projects as a Division-III/NAIA D2 prospect. |
