For his college sport, you might think Madison would pick football. It would be understandable; he was named the Duluth News Tribune Player Of The Year after rushing for more than 1,400 yards and scoring 22 touchdowns. Perhaps his most impressive stat would be his 12.7 yards-per-carry. Thanks to him, Hermantown went 10-1 and was the highest-scoring non-nine-man team in the state.
But that doesn’t sway Madison, who loves hoops.
“For me, basketball is number one,” Madison told NHR. “There is a slight possibility I’d play football in college too. Probably not, but we’ll see.”
He’s got his choices somewhat whittled down, although there is still quite a bit of time before he makes a choice.
“I’d say Bethel and UM-Duluth are my top two (college choices),” he said. “I’m visiting Concordia-Moorhead, too. I’ll definitely wait until after basketball season to make my decision. Size, tradition, success of the program, academics are probably the most important thing to me.”
Madison is averaging 20 PPG for a Hermantown team that is still looking to find its traction.
“Our season is going alright, we’re 7-9 right now and looking to get back to .500. We’ve played a tougher schedule than we ever have, which will hopefully benefit us come playoff time.”
