Continue ReadingBoulder Creek has put up some big wins this season and one of the major keys is 6’2” senior leader Matt Downey.
“(The) season has been full of ups and downs this year,” started Downey. “We have had close losses to both Mountain Ridge and Gilbert. (We are) looking to keep improving and get ready for playoff time.”
The senior guard is currently averaging 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 steals, highlight by a 28 point, 7 rebounds, 2 assist, and 4 steal performance against Highland.
A smooth point guard, Matt is a crafty handler that controls the tempo of the game and knocks down shots. He is a high IQ player that plays with great poise and toughness.
While he’s got a great feel for the game, Downey still works to “improve my one-on-one ability to create my own shot as well as getting into the paint to get a look for my teammates.”
A high academic recruit, Matt posts a 4.6 GPA and 28 ACT. Naturally, numerous schools have shown interest including “George Fox University, Knox College, and Whitman College.”
“I’m looking for a school with, primarily, an excelling education that is reasonably affordable. I want to major in pre-med.”
Matt stated that he will make his decision at the conclusion of the season.
