He’s authored a series of rock-solid outings this season for the Falcons – culminating in a career-high 34 points to go along with 14 rebounds in a win vs. Broad Run.
A finesse-type big, who loves to score around the basket by utilizing an arsenal of moves and fakes, Martin is also able to stretch the floor thanks to a soft touch.
“I think a lot of people under-estimate me in mid-range and three. I can definitely step out there and hit a few shots,” he stated.
Lucas began playing recreational basketball when he was 8. Since about eighth grade, he’s been playing competitively and dedicating more time into his development. Kip Shallis, his coach at Briar Woods, really emphasized how important getting stronger and more physical would be for him moving forward.
“My strength has definitely improved since last year,” Lucas began. “Coach said that I can’t get bumped around, so I’ve been working out a lot.”
His hard work is paying dividends. Lucas has been a double-double machine, stringing together a series of strong efforts to highlight his senior campaign. A bevy of small colleges are actively recruiting Lucas. He’s taken visits to Hampden-Sydney, Goucher, and Randolph-Macon; with plans to visit Salisbury and Christopher Newport in the near future.
“[Randolph] Macon comes to almost every single game,” said Lucas. “Salisbury comes to most games. Schools primarily see me fitting in as a step out four man.”
To play at the next level, ball-handling is another area Lucas knows he needs to improve on. He says won’t make a decision on which school he’ll attend until after the season. To go along with athletics, Lucas is a stand-out in the classroom as well. He dons an outstanding 4.2 GPA, and plans to study Computer Science in college.
