Continue ReadingMorgan Park 2016 shooting guard Jamal Burton has always been known as a tough defender and energy guy. The 6’3” wing continues to do that. He is a monster wing defender getting deflections and steals on a consistent basis. The unsigned senior is a tenacious rebounder as well hitting the glass on both ends at a high rate. Plays above the rim with plus athleticism including catching alley-oop passes. The most impressive development in his game early in season has been on the jumper. Burton has not been a particularly effective shooter throughout his career. He looked more comfortable hitting the 18 foot shot and even stepped out to drill some threes. If he can add this to his game consistently he will be one of the biggest senior stock risers in the state. Should be on the low-major radar.
Burton discussed the evolution in his game.
“Nick (Irvin) has been on me a lot this year about scoring the ball a little bit. I have a new role on the team. I have to play more D and shoot the ball a little more.”
The senior spoke about what he feels his strengths are.
“I can play any position, rebound, can shoot the ball, get to the rim, and can shoot free throws.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“It is picking up. St. Louis University and Loyola interest.”
