Continue ReadingFenwick junior Jacob Keller is a left handed combo guard that does a little bit of everything and is always around the basketball. At 6’2” Keller is quick off the bounce getting in the lane with his long strides. Loves to use the euro step in the paint to finish. Takes and makes high percentage shots. Plus rebounder for a guard that hits the glass on both ends effectively. Good help defender that has active hands getting deflections and steals. The 2017 prospect is a stock riser that is worth consideration at the mid-major level.
We caught up with Keller to discuss where his recruitment stands.
“I am talking to a few colleges. Wofford, Northern Colorado, Western Illinois, Drake, Loyola, UIC, and a couple more.”
Vermont was the first school to pull the trigger on an early scholarship offer.
“I talked to the guy recruiting me Coach Schneider. I talk to him a lot every week. He calls me every week. I went and watched them play against Purdue a couple weeks ago. We have a good relationship.”
He is also a potential D1 football recruit. Has he made his mind up on what he wants to play at the next level?
“I haven’t decided yet. I am still riding it out. I love playing both. It is going to hurt choosing one.”
He ran with a quality Young Legends 16U team on the circuit which prepared him for this year.
“We picked up the Under Armour sponsorship last year and we had a great team with Coach Mike. He is tough on us in practice and in games. I think he is preparing us for the next level. He is a great coach and we have a great team. We all like each other and play hard.”
How would Keller break down his game?
“I am a great passing guard. I normally play point guard. I have great vision. I strive to get my teammates the ball. I like passing a lot. I will score, but would rather get assists than score. That is the type of player I am.”
